A man has been booked by local authorities for allegedly concealing his marital status and deceiving a woman into marriage, police officials confirmed on Thursday.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) lodged at the [Name of Police Station], the accused, identified as [Name Withheld], allegedly entered into a marital relationship with the complainant without disclosing that he was already legally married.
The complainant stated that she was led to believe the accused was single and eligible for marriage. “He kept his previous marriage hidden from me throughout our courtship and misrepresented himself as unmarried,” she told investigators.
The matter came to light after the woman learned about his first marriage through mutual acquaintances and confronted him. Upon confirmation, she approached the police and filed a formal complaint.
“We have registered a case under relevant sections of the law pertaining to fraud and concealment of information,” a police spokesperson said. “An investigation is underway, and further action will be taken based on the evidence.”
Legal experts say that concealing marital status in such a context may constitute a punishable offense under sections of the Pakistan Penal Code relating to cheating and breach of trust, particularly if the intent was to defraud.
